  104.        This section lists the subsystems (and their sizes) of the
  105.        IRIS InSight software.

  107.        You can use the software installation instructions in the
  108.        _P_e_r_s_o_n_a_l _S_y_s_t_e_m _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e to install this
  109.        product.  If you are installing this software for the first
  110.        time, the default subsystems are installed if you click the
  111.        _I_n_s_t_a_l_l _A_u_t_o_m_a_t_i_c_a_l_l_y button.  To install a different set of
  112.        subsystems, click the _C_u_s_t_o_m_i_z_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n button and make
  113.        your new selections.  Then click the _S_t_a_r_t button to launch
  114.        the installation.

  153.        2.3  _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__M_e_t_h_o_d

  155.        All of the subsystems for IRIS InSight can be installed
  156.        using IRIX.  You do not need to use the miniroot. Refer to
  157.        the _I_R_I_S _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e for complete
  158.        installation instructions.

  161.        2.4  _P_r_e_r_e_q_u_i_s_i_t_e_s
  162.  
  163.        Your workstation must be running IRIX 6.5 or greater in
  164.        order to use this release of IRIS InSight.
  165.  
  166.        Most products in the IRIS InSight family require that the
  167.        insight_base product be installed. In particular, the
  168.        _i_n_s_i_g_h_t__b_a_s_e._s_w._e_o_e subsystem.
  169.  
  170.        If you install the IRIS InSight viewer (_i_n_s_i_g_h_t._s_w._c_l_i_e_n_t)
  171.        then you must also install _x__e_o_e._s_w._e_o_e, _m_o_t_i_f__e_o_e._s_w._e_o_e,
  172.        _d_m_e_d_i_a__e_o_e._s_w._l_i_b, _c_o_m_p_i_l_e_r__e_o_e._s_w._l_i_b, _c++__e_o_e._s_w._l_i_b, and
  173.        _V_i_e_w_K_i_t__e_o_e._s_w._b_a_s_e for the viewer to function properly.

  175.        If you want to view any of the inline Inventor media objects
  176.        then you must install _i_n_v_e_n_t_o_r__e_o_e._s_w._i_n_v_e_n_t_o_r.  If you want
  177.        to view any of the inline movie objects then you must
  178.        install _e_o_e._s_w._g_f_x.
  179.  
  180.        Many of the aforementioned prerequisites also apply to
  181.        installing the SGIHelp viewer, _i_n_s_i_g_h_t._s_w._s_g_i_h_e_l_p. In
  182.        addition, the SGIHelp viewer requires that _w_e_b_v_i_e_w_e_r._s_w._e_o_e

  200.        If you want to install the online help book
  201.        (_i_n_s_i_g_h_t._b_o_o_k_s._h_e_l_p) for the IRIS InSight viewer then you
  202.        must install the SGIHelp viewer _i_n_s_i_g_h_t._s_w._s_g_i_h_e_l_p along
  203.        with the help.
  204.  
  205.        If you wish to install the SGIHelp XHelp tools then you will
  206.        need to install _i_n_s_t__d_e_v._s_w._b_a_s_e, and _d_e_v._s_w._m_a_k_e (which are
  207.        part of the base Developer bundle), in order to build
  208.        instable images.  If you simply want to build the samples
  209.        without building images then you do not need these
  210.        subsystems.

  213.        2.5  _C_o_m_p_a_t_i_b_i_l_i_t_y
  214.  
  215.        It is possible to mount and access books from a machine
  216.        running a different version of IRIX. In general, to avoid
  217.        any incompatibilities, the client machine should have
  218.        version 3.x (or greater) of the InSight Viewer (and version
  219.        3.x, or greater, of SGIHelp) installed.  In this scenario,
  220.        the help for certain applications may not work properly due
  221.        to changes in both the applications themselves and in the
  222.        documentation (between the different versions of IRIX).
  223.  
  224.        Japanese books cannot be viewed using a version 2.x InSight
  225.        Viewer and _m_u_s_t be viewed using a version 3.x (or greater)
  226.        viewer.
  227.  
  228.        The new InSight Viewer and SGIHelp can view all books
  229.        distributed as part of IRIX 6.2, 6.3, 6.4 or 6.5.  The
  230.        opposite may not be true (in general, the 2.x versions of
  231.        InSight cannot read books published for IRIX 6.3, 6.4 and
  232.        6.5).
  233.  
  234.        It has been found that the old _i_n_f_o_n_a_v._s_w._b_a_s_e subsystem,
  235.        part of the original _S_u_p_p_o_r_t_f_o_l_i_o release, is incompatible
  236.        and conflicts with this version of insight and insight_base.
  237.        For that reason, it (the _i_n_f_o_n_a_v product) should be removed
  238.        from the system prior to installation.  The problem will
  239.        manifest itself in the inability to read the online books.

  242.        2.6  _O_t_h_e_r__I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__I_n_f_o_r_m_a_t_i_o_n

  277.        2.6.1  _C_l_i_e_n_t__a_n_d__L_o_c_a_l__B_o_o_k_s

  279.        The default installation configuration is to install the
  280.        IRIS InSight Viewer and Library on a single system. The
  281.        total size of the viewer (and help book for the viewer) is
  282.        approximately 11 megabytes. Installing additional books
  283.        requires additional disk space.  If you have the disk space,
  284.        this is the ideal configuration since it gives the viewer
  285.        fastest access to the book data.
  286.

  288.        find out the disk space requirements for each book.

  291.        2.6.2  _L_o_c_a_l__C_l_i_e_n_t__w_i_t_h__R_e_m_o_t_e__(_m_o_u_n_t_e_d_)__B_o_o_k_s

  293.        If several machines plan on sharing all the books and help
  294.        files via NFS mounts then this is the configuration of
  295.        choice.
  296.  
  297.        Note:  If you have the IRIS InSight Library (books)
  298.               installed on your disk but wish to mount the books
  299.               from a remote machine, you should remove all the
  300.               current IRIS InSight books (with the IRIX command
  301.               _v_e_r_s_i_o_n_s _r_e_m_o_v_e) from your system and remove any
  302.               remaining files in /_u_s_r/_s_h_a_r_e/_I_n_s_i_g_h_t/_l_i_b_r_a_r_y before
  303.               performing the mount command described below.

  305.        To install the IRIS InSight Viewer and Library on a remote
  306.        server and access the information from a local client
  307.        system, follow these steps:

  364.              that contains an IRIS InSight Library (books) into the
  365.              CD-ROM drive.

  367.              If the drive is not mounted, use the System Manager to
  368.              mount the drive.  The most common mount point is
  369.              /_C_D_R_O_M.

  371.              If the drive is mounted correctly, you should be able
  372.              to change directories to /_C_D_R_O_M and see the directory
  373.              containing the IRIS InSight Library (books) on the CD
